railing description

Located in newly revitalized downtown Bremerton, this multi-family waterfront development incorporates a privately accessible rooftop garden, unique public hill climb and waterfront terrace.

A major focus of this project was to work with the City of Bremerton to expand and develop the required public waterfront-viewing terrace.  Providing the public access to this plaza proved to be a design challenge due to the site’s steep topography, which we capitalized on by developing a unique hill climb.  Terminating at a major view corridor down 5th Street, this public open space will provide the community with a diverse experience while descending down to the waterfront terrace. Conceptually speaking users descend onto the 5th Street Pier that appears to stay afloat over the Puget Sound on a drift of native ferns.

The surrounding maritime character tailored the conceptual framework and came to fruition in the detailing.  Many of these details are executed through modern styling of maritime elements such as the custom guardrail that emulates the local ferry detailing and sculptural elements that mimic the neighboring hydrologic patterns.
