Hawley Cove Park is owned and managed by the City of Bainbridge Island Metropolitan Parks & Recreation District.  The park is a 13 acre undeveloped property with a class II forested wetland and class F stream, bordered by a residential street, shoreline and residential property.  The goals of this project were:

  1. to create a public pedestrian trail from the street to the shoreline that was safe for pedestrian access and protected the critical ecosystem;
  2. design a trail that meets the environmental needs of the area; and
  3. complete the construction documentation and RFP.

Another task was to take the design through the permitting process, including permitting documents, permit application, and acquisition.  This required maneuvering through the agencies that govern critical areas.  The agencies involved included: The Army Corps of Engineers, Washington State Department of Fish & Wildlife, and the City of Bainbridge Island.
